Can Non-Engineers Crack CAT Easily?

Body

A lot of people feel that CAT is tilted in favor of engineers because of the Quant section. And yes, engineers might have an edge there since they’ve been dealing with numbers throughout their academic journey. But that doesn’t mean non-engineers can’t crack it.

Here’s the thing: CAT is not just about being great at math. The VARC and DILR sections actually balance the game out really well. In fact, many non-engineers often ace VARC naturally because they’ve been more exposed to reading, writing, or analytical reasoning in their coursework.

Also, when it comes to the admission process, B-schools make sure the competition is fair. An engineer doesn’t directly compete with a non-engineer β€” most institutes consider academic diversity. So an engineer is largely competing with engineers, and non-engineers with non-engineers. This ensures that both sides get their fair chance.

So, if you’re from a non-engineering background, don’t look at it as a disadvantage. Play to your strengths, put in extra effort in quant, and remember β€” B-schools actually value diverse classrooms. Many top non-engineers make it to the IIMs every single year.

Any idea how many non-engineers actually hit 99%ile+ every year, or is it still mostly engineers dominating?

Not sure you exact % but I would say decent amount of them have hit 99%ile and above,

For non-engineers, isn’t NMAT or XAT a safer bet since their Quant isn’t as brutal as CAT? Should I just skip CAT, I am way too scared

NMAT's difficulty level is moderate but XAT is reasonable tough and even engineers find it difficultΒ

How much do your 10th/12th/grad marks matter if you’re a non-engineer with diversity points? Like does the academic score matter a lot that way?Β

Do B-schools actually shortlist separately for engineers vs non-engineers, or is that just talk?

Hey, just had a question. What percentile do non-engineers usually need to land in IIM ABC, with diversity points counted?

As a non-engineer, should I just get decent in Quant and then go all in on VARC/DILR?

Do engineers really flop in VARC or is that just a meme lol, just curious

Since B-schools give diversity points, does that make things easier for us non-engineers in final calls?
